Freedom of Worship
At the time of the Newbury Martyrs the state in the person of Queen Mary enacted laws that restricted the freedom of individuals to practise faith in the way that suited them. Individuals were only legally allowed to practise the Roman Catholic faith. They were not allowed to read the bible in English. They had to attend holy communion and take the sacraments from a priest.
Today we have much more freedom to worship as we wish in the UK. However this freedom is not laid down in a constitution or as articles.
